You don’t need to know your child’s level before starting the booking process. You’ll first complete a short questionnaire about your child’s current swimming ability. Based on your answers, you’ll be directed to the most appropriate level before entering your child’s information and viewing the suitable classes available.
We follow STA criteria, which can differ slightly from Swim England stages. If your child has had lessons elsewhere, please answer the questions based on what they can currently do in the water rather than relying solely on their previous stage or badge.
-
Our preschool classes have a maximum of 4 swimmers with 1 instructor or 6 swimmers with 2 instructors. Our school-age group lessons have a maximum of 6 swimmers per instructor. Keeping our classes small allows our instructors to get to know their swimmers and provide plenty of individual attention and support.
-
Yes. Our instructors teach in the water at all levels. This allows them to demonstrate skills clearly, stay close to swimmers and provide additional support and reassurance when needed.
-
We try to keep poolside as calm and quiet as possible to minimise distractions and help swimmers focus on their lesson.
We have a comfortable waiting area where parents can watch the lesson via our live stream, with baby play mats, toys and books available for younger siblings.
Our poolside assistants carry walkie-talkies, so you’re never far away. If your child needs you for support, needs help going to the toilet, or simply wants you to come and see a new skill they’ve learnt, we’ll come and get you.
If your child needs you to remain poolside while they initially settle in, we’re also happy to work with you individually.
-
Absolutely. We don’t expect children to arrive feeling confident or to take part in everything straight away. Our approach is patient and child-led, and we’ll give your child time to get to know their instructor and become comfortable with the environment and the water.
Building trust and confidence is an important part of learning to swim, and we won’t rush that process. -
Yes. We welcome swimmers with additional needs and encourage parents to give us as much relevant information as possible so we can understand how best to support their child.
We understand that every swimmer is different and will adapt our approach and make reasonable adjustments wherever possible. Your child does not need to have a formal diagnosis for you to discuss their needs with us.
-
Yes. We understand that visiting somewhere new can feel overwhelming for some children, so we’re very happy to arrange a pre-swim visit before their lessons begin.
This gives your child an opportunity to see the studio, pool and changing areas and become familiar with their surroundings before their first swimming lesson. Please contact us if you feel a pre-swim visit would benefit your child and we’ll be happy to arrange one.

Yes. Our 1-2-1 lessons are available for both children and adults who would benefit from individual tuition. They can be particularly helpful for nervous swimmers, swimmers with additional needs or anyone who benefits from a more personalised approach.
Our regular 1-2-1 lessons take place at 3pm and 3.30pm, as these are the times when we are able to keep the pool and studio at their quietest.
These spaces are very popular and can book quickly. If there is no current availability, please contact us to be added to our waiting list.
-
Yes. We offer 2-2-1 lessons for two swimmers who would like to learn together, such as siblings or friends.
These use the same available time slots as our 1-2-1 lessons and cannot currently be booked directly online. Please contact us at jenkinsswimstudio@gmail.com to enquire about availability.
-
No. We don’t use armbands during our swimming lessons. Instead, our instructors use a range of swimming aids, including floats and noodles, to provide support while helping swimmers gradually develop their confidence and independence in the water.
-
Please bring your swimmer’s usual swimwear and a towel. Goggles are welcome if your swimmer is comfortable wearing them, but they aren’t essential.
You don’t need to bring armbands or swimming aids as we provide the equipment needed during lessons.
For any child who is not 100% toilet trained, we have a double nappy policy. They will need to wear a disposable or reusable swim nappy with a neoprene nappy over the top. Both layers must be worn during the lesson.
-
We generally recommend arriving around 10 minutes before your lesson. This gives you enough time to get changed and settled without feeling rushed.
However, you know your swimmer best. Some children benefit from having a little longer to become familiar with their surroundings, while others find waiting around more difficult and do better arriving closer to their lesson time. Please adapt your arrival time to what works best for your child.
-
Our regular swimming lessons are booked in termly blocks. Terms are usually around 6 weeks, and we follow the school timetable. Current availability and pricing can be viewed through our online booking platform.
-
We don’t officially offer catch-up lessons and cannot guarantee that a missed lesson can be replaced. However, we understand that things happen.
Please send Beth a message and, if there is a suitable space available, we will always try our best to help. Any catch-up spaces are subject to availability.
-
Our regular timetable follows the school terms, but we also run 4-day intensive swimming courses during selected half terms and the Easter holidays.
Our intensive courses are available for both children and adults and can be booked as 1-2-1, 2-2-1 or 3-2-1 tuition. We also run a separate swimming programme during the summer holidays.
-
No. Our regular swimming lessons currently run Monday to Friday.
-
Our pool is heated to approximately 31°C, providing a warm and comfortable environment for swimmers of all ages, including babies and young children.
-
We have toilets, baby changing facilities and hairdryers available for families to use.
We also have a comfortable waiting area with a live stream of the pool, as well as baby play mats, toys and books to help keep younger siblings entertained.
Please note that we do not have shower facilities.
-
Yes. As parents ourselves, we understand that bringing one child to swimming often means bringing brothers and sisters along too.
Our waiting area has baby play mats, toys and books to help keep younger siblings entertained, and you can watch the swimming lesson on our live stream at the same time.
We’ve deliberately designed the studio to make swimming lessons as easy as possible when you’re juggling more than one child.
-
Yes. Free parking is available at the studio, making arrival and collection easier for families.
